The Hip book arrives in Chronicle Books’ warehouse on Valentine’s Day; it should show up in book stores by the end of February. Dunno when the official publication date is yet or when I’ll go on my book tour, but I’ll keep you posted.

Despite the lack of site updates, I have been busy these last few months. I’ve a bunch of weddings yet to post, but in the meantime, here are some other galleries to tide you over.

You may recall I did a shoot with my friend Larissa last year, three days before and three days after giving birth to her beautiful daughter, Lily. Anyway, the year flew by and in June I went to her first birthday party.

Elric and Angelique have been good friends to me for many years;they had a baby daughter too, Liberty. I also took pictures at their baby shower a few months back.

Burning Man is a great source of models; I find most of mine either directly or indirectly from it; Molly, Kristen and Ursula are no exception.

jodi boobaloges hips rocio jamie

It took a while, but I finally lined up a shoot with the most beautiful woman I met at last year’s Burning Man - Jodi. Once our schedules match, we’ll do another one. Watch this space.

I’m a big fan of the boobies, so when a filmmaker asked me to contribute images to a documentary devoted to them, I was happy to oblige. “Boobalogues - our breasts, our lives” explores women’s relationships with their breasts and proceeds benefit causes supporting women’s health care issues and breast feeding. There are about 40 of my pictures in it. You’ll be able to buy the DVD for $20 through Amazon and eBay by August.

My hips book is getting published by Chronicle Books early next year. I’m pretty excited about it; Chronicle was my top choice and they were the first and only publisher to see it. It’s going to be a 250-page hardcover and sell for less than 15 bucks. I’m hoping to do a national road trip/book tour about this time next year, so I may be appearing on a couch near you . . .

A Google seach for “Burning Man photos” returns over a million sites and right now I’m number one.” Since it’s hardly likely to last, here’s proof (pops). Case in point - last week I was the top result for “Burning Man photographer” but then I was toppled. Maybe that’ll change once I post this year’s galleries?

In the meantime here are a couple of new galleries for you, Jamie and Rocio.

A very good friend of mine, Larissa, had a beautiful baby daughter in June. I was fortunate enough to be able to do a shoot with her a couple of days before and after Lily’s birth. (Lily’s in a new “Children” section which I’ll fill up when I get time.)

I also got to do a shoot with another friend of mine who was five months pregnant. She had a perfectly egg shaped belly, so I used an egg as a prop. Seemed to work, but I couldn’t help thinking someone else had used the concept before. While it’s true that I almost exclusively shoot women (as I’ve said before, they’re soft and they smell nice) every once in a while I’ll shoot guys. Here’s an example, Michael. It was his first shoot, and I must say, he did a great job.

I still have several weekends open for weddings, if any brides to be out there are reading this. Here’s one I did recently, the very cool Ayse and Noel. Whether you’re gay, straight or otherwise, there’s no denying that San Francisco’s annual Pride festival is a great party. This year was no exception, and I took the opportunity to shoot 72 more hips, take pictures of some of the people I met and street cast some models. I met the lovely Nicole there and we did a shoot the following week.

halloween in the castro hips at halloween day of the dead

Halloween in San Francisco’s Castro district is a always a huge thing, but this year about 300,000 people showed up, including me and my camera. I shot a few hips, bringing my total to 1,088. For anyone interested in how the project developed, I’ve arranged them in reverse chronological order.

There was a much better vibe a few days later in the Mission District’s Day of the Dead celebration. For some reason, I’d never been to this festival, but it was a welcome change from the craziness of the Castro.

1068 hips

Last Sunday was the Burning Man decompression party in San Francisco and I took the opportunity to pass the 1,000 mark in my hips series - 1,068 to be exact.

They’re in no particular order, although the first one is the hip that inspired the whole series. I think 1,000’s enough for now - all I have to do now is find a publisher and collect as many model releases as possible for the 600+ I shot before I realised it would make an interesting book. So if you’re one of my subjects, or know someone who is, please contact me. Your hip might become famous!

Oh, and you’ll need a fast computer and connection. Each index page has ninety thumbnails - I’m too lazy to imagemap 1,000+ files.
