Oh, and in case you haven’t done so yet, please buy the book!
It’s taken me longer than ever, but at last my Burning Man 2006 galleries are up.
I usually make a half-hearted attempt to even out the male:female ratio of my subjects, but not this year. As you can see from the rest of the site, I almost exclusively shoot women, so this year’s Burning Man is entirely in character. If you’d like to see more photos of male burners, you’ll have to look elsewhere. Sorry.
My biggest categories this year were torsos, faces and of course hips. Speaking of which, I’m now selling signed copies of the hips book direct from this site. If you buy one, you’re helping offset my eyewatering costs of film, proccessing, dry ice and whatnot.
You can now order a
signed copy of my first book “Hips” from this site.
Hips is a collection of 250 different hips photographed at Burning Man which I hope gives people at least some sense of the almost impossible to describe festival. Mark Morford from sfgate.com wrote the afterword. You can see my hips collection here.
It was published by Chronicle Books last summer and is sold at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Walmart and now here. It even got a mention in the October 2006 Penthouse Forum (page seven, if you’re interested).
You can buy it for $15 (plus $3 shipping to anywhere in the USA) by clicking this link.
Seems like it’s taken forever, but the Hips book is finally shipping. People who have pre-ordered through Amazon should be getting their copies this week. Maybe even sooner if you ordered from here (shudder). I’ve even found the first review of it, from a Victoria, BC paper, Monday Magazine.
I’m also having a book signing/exhibition of hips at Studio Gallery here in San Francisco on Saturday May 21st from 4pm to 8pm - everyone’s welcome.
And because of the book and whatever, I’m embarrassingly behind on posting galleries. Apologies to all. Until I catch up, here’s some pictures I took at Bunny Jam. Oh, and if you come across a copy of the May 5th Irish Herald (most likely found in Irish bars and the like), there’s an interview/article on yours truly.
I’ve known Steve since we were in pre-school - back in the Johnson administration. Yes, I’m that old. Well, he eloped with his long time sweetheart Nici last month and got married in San Francisco City Hall.
In news almost justifying the {blink} tag, my long awaited “hips” book is finally available for pre-order from Amazon. As of yet there’s not much info on the Amazon page, but you can read more from Chronicle Books. Once I know an exact release date (April-ish?) I’ll post details about parties, signings and whatnot. Stay tuned.
And I’ve made a new gallery of 1652 hips, vaguely ordered by color. Not dial-up friendly, I’m afraid. . .
