Two more galleries today, a shoot with Melanie and a wedding shoot for Kathleen and Rick.

Also, before I approach publishers with my Hip Project book proposal, I’m trying to get as many model releases as possible. Right now, I only have about 350 out of 1,088 released, an if you or someone you know had their hip photographed by me but didn’t sign a release, I’ll send you (or them) a collectible signed photo magnet in return for a completed model release. That and the chance of being immortalised in print . . .

And finally, I’m the featured artist at a gallery opening this coming Friday, November 15th. It’s at Optical Artistry, has refreshments, music by DJ Jamonit and runs from 7pm until midnight. I’m showing several new peices and will run my Hips show on a big screen, if you’re interested. Here’s more details and a map. (Addendum): I’m a bit behind in posting galleries, but here’s one I shot not so long ago, the Santa Cruz wedding of Joanna and Andres.

Instead of scanning the negs, I scanned the prints full frame - for those of of you who might doubt that I never crop. One bonus is being able to see the exposure data on my medium format prints, thanks to my lustworthy Contax 645.

halloween in the castro hips at halloween day of the dead

Halloween in San Francisco’s Castro district is a always a huge thing, but this year about 300,000 people showed up, including me and my camera. I shot a few hips, bringing my total to 1,088. For anyone interested in how the project developed, I’ve arranged them in reverse chronological order.

There was a much better vibe a few days later in the Mission District’s Day of the Dead celebration. For some reason, I’d never been to this festival, but it was a welcome change from the craziness of the Castro.
