I met Amber and Sharon when they were on their first extended date – at Burning Man 2002 – and as a result, they ended up on facing pages in my Hips book. Fast forward to 2008 when I was covering the announcement of legal same sex weddings at San Francisco City Hall, and sure enough there were Amber and Sharon, applying for one of the first licenses. On the first day of weddings, City Hall was a mob scene, awash with donated flowers and giddy couples. Because Amber and Sharon were so stunning in their white wedding gowns, we were joined by a clamoring pack of photographers. Despite all this, they only had eyes for each other.
